

John Herman Valk, age 91 of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, August 17, 2021. John was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Valk; parents Albert and Anna Valk; and an infant grandson. He will be remembered by his children Albert (Carole) Valk, Edward (Karen) Valk, Barbara (Paul) Erffmeyer, and Mary (Jon) Diekema; grandchildren Bradley Diekema, Steven Diekema, Sara (Mitch) Hoeve, Jill (Dave) Veeneman, Megan (Jake) Vollink, Peter (Jen) Valk, Benjamin Valk, Nasreen (Bret) Fynewever; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helengene (Cliff) Doornbos; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
John served in the Army in the 1950s. He had a love for playing the trumpet, fishing, and woodworking. Much of his life he worked as an electrician, both residential and commercial. He always had a passion for helping others when needed and was active in Crossroads Ministry.
Visitation with relatives and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A Celebration of John’s Life will take place 11 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2021 at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, O-60 Port Sheldon Rd., Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation one hour prior to service and a light luncheon to follow. Pastor Gerry Koning will be officiating. In honor of John and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Hospice or Crossroads Ministry. Interment will be at Georgetown Cemetery.
