Lance was born in South Lyon, Michigan to the late Russell Dunham and Ethel Dunham Frisk. He graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High in 1957, and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Jean (Hawkes) Dunham, July 3, 1959.
In addition to being a hard working and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Lance served in the Michigan Army National Guard from 1961-1968. He also worked as an usher at many U of M football games in his younger years, and was well known as a proud U of M football fan wherever his life travels took him. GO BLUE!
In 1973, Lance and Barb had the opportunity to move their family from Ann Arbor to Traverse City, Michigan, where they enjoyed nearly 40 years making memories with their children and grandchildren on Silver Lake before moving to Jenison, Michigan to be closer to daughter, Lindsey, and her family.
Lance retired from State Farm Insurance after working for over 30 years as a claims specialist. In addition to helping families throughout Michigan, Lance helped across the country when assisting as a catastrophe adjuster.
After retirement, Lance enjoyed spending extra time with his grandchildren (of whom he was so proud), traveling with Barb, in addition to golfing and fishing. Lance and Barb spent 19 winters of their retirement in Gulf Shores, Alabama where they were members of the Michigan Snowbird Club, and made many unforgettable friends and memories.
Lance was preceded in death by his son, Michael Dunham and grandson, Donnie Taylor. Lance is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barb; their daughter, Lindsey Taylor-Durfee (Rob Roy); grandchildren Bryan Taylor (Amy), Jamie Wheelock (David), Morgan Durfee (Sean Scally); and great-grandchildren Lily, Beau, Ella, Bretyn, Emmett, Jackson, Dalton, and Eden.
Per Lance's wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will hold a private burial in Traverse City at a later date. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
