

Lois G. Whittemore passed away peacefully at Sunset Retirement Community Sunday April 13, 2025 at the age of 106 years, 9 months, and 19 days. She was born at home in Grand Rapids June 25, 1918 shortly after her twin brother, Lloyd.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Robbins Whittemore in 2013; parents Frank and Alida (Witman); brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert W (Lillian) Van Horn, Charles (Betty) Van Horn, Lloyd (Helen) Van Horn; and niece, Linda (Michael) Cohen. She is survived by nieces and nephews Karen (Don) Brown, Robert Jr. (Kerri) Van Horn, Paul (Judith) Van Horn, Jean (Phillip) Verwys, Daniel (Jean) Van Horn, Carol (Kevin) Hulsey, Debra (William) Kranek; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Lois attended Plainfield Elementary School and graduated from Creston High School in 1936. She worked at Globe Knitting during World War II and as a bookkeeper for Kentwood and Kenowa Public Schools. She and Howard enjoyed many winters in Florida where they were active in their church. They were members of Calvary Church in Grand Rapids. Lois was a woman of deep faith, a wonderful aunt, companion and friend to all.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Sunset for their wonderful care and support for both Howard and Lois during their 19 years as residents.
A funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie Street SW, Grandville, Michigan 49418, with Rev. Tom Olsson of Calvary Church officiating. Family visitation one hour prior. Interment at Fairplains Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
