Melvin Frederick Zehnder

Born February 9, 1940, in Birch Run, Michigan, Mel lived a life filled with devotion to God and his family.

Mel’s love of golf was legendary among his friends and family. He cherished every opportunity to spend time on the course, whether it was a casual round with his friends or cheering on his favorite pros. His enthusiasm for Michigan football was equally strong; fall Saturdays were reserved for watching the Wolverines, and he proudly sported maize and blue year-round.

Above all, Mel was a devoted father. He found immense pride and happiness in his children, always supporting their dreams and celebrating their achievements. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering encouragement shaped their lives in countless ways.

Mel is preceded in death by his wife, Terre Pfleghaar Zehnder; parents Harold and Erna Zehnder; siblings Wallace Zehnder, Raymond (Marilyn) Zehnder, Donald Zehnder, Lorraine Zehnder, Elaine (Arnold) Maurer, and Carl Schneirla; grandson, Brent Rittenhouse; and his loving dog, Bailey.

He is survived by his children Andrew Zehnder, Mary (Daniel) Armstrong, Sarah Zehnder, and Rachel (Matthew) Domanowski; grandchildren Asher and Aria Armstrong, Brylie (Ashley) Murcko; siblings James (Sherrill) Zehnder and Marian Schneirla; sister-in-law, Doris Zehnder; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mel will be remembered for his humorous spirit, his unwavering faith, and the deep love he shared with his friends and family. While he will be missed dearly, his legacy lives on in the memories and traditions he passed down to his children and grandchildren.

The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Edison Christian Life Services and Faith Hospice for the steadfast and compassionate care provided to Mel.
