
Muriel taught for many years in the Michigan and Illinois Public Schools. Her last position was as an English teacher and taught creative writing at Wyoming High School. She was also very active in her church and community.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lilace Messner, and her brother, Robert. Surviving are her husband, William J. DeWitt of Grandville; son, Thomas W. DeWitt of East Grand Rapids; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Matthew Collins of Ypsilanti; sister and brother, Patricia Labadie of Escanaba, and Roger Tobin of Gladstone; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Monday, January 2, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Cook Funeral Home east building, corner of Chicago Dr. and Division, 4235 Prairie SW, Grandville, with Rev. Gordon Negen of Grandville-Jenison Congregational Church officiating.
Relatives and friends may meet Muriel's family Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service. Those unable to attend the visitation or memorial service may sign the family's Memory Book at www.cookfuneralservices.com.
