Richard Dale Cole, age 79 of Big Rapids, Michigan, passed away, surrounded by loved ones, on Monday, January 19, 2026. Richard was born in Ann Arbor on July 29, 1946, the son of Ida and Orvis Cole. A humble and hardworking man, Richard had a soft spot for animals, a knack for canning tomatoes, and a deep appreciation for country living.
Richard graduated from Creston High School in Grand Rapids and attended Ferris College before proudly serving in the United States Army. Following his military service, Richard moved to Lansing, where he worked as a truck driver while raising his five children. Richard loved the simple life and family tradition. He later enjoyed his retirement in Big Rapids, happily living at the “farmhouse.” He was passionate about many hobbies, especially projects that allowed him to work outdoors on his tractor or tinker in his pole barn.
Richard’s happiest moments were spent hunting, fishing, and traveling with family and friends. A truck driver at heart, he had the gift of gab, was never in a hurry, and never met a stranger he couldn’t share a cup of coffee with and get to know.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Georgette; brother, Dave (Margaret); daughters Sarah (Dawn) and Rebecca (Luis); sons Christopher, John (Allison), and Mitch (Mary); along with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and the many friends and extended family he cherished deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents Ida and Orvis Cole, and his grandson, Christopher.
A celebration of life will be announced and held this spring, allowing family and friends to come together in warmer weather to honor and remember Richard. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
