Robert D. Bird

BIRD a?" Robert D. Bird, Sr. age 83, of Wyoming, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Katherine Bird; his brothers Arthur, Donald, Eugene (Pat); sister, Barbara; and Jane M. Bird, the mother of his children.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Robert and Deb Bird, Jr. and Libby and Lanny Sperry all of Byron Center; grandchildren, Tim, Joe, Greg, and Katie. Bob graduated from Lowell High School before serving in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the armed services, he was in sales for the Holland Furnace Company and the Yellow Pages before retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Creston VFW post 3023. He enjoyed sports and participated in football, basketball, track and baseball during his years at Lowell High School. He was very proud of his grandchildren and loved watching all their sporting events. He has a great sense of humor that helped him through much adversity. He was blessed by his friends and time living at Aurora Pond. The family would like to thank Drs. Campbell and McNamara for their care as well as the staff at Spectrum Butterworth and Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods.

The funeral service will be held 1 pm Friday at the Byron Center Chapel of Cook Funeral Home, 2067 a?" 84th SW with Msgr. William Duncan officiating. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. The family will meet with relatives and friends on Thursday from 7-9 pm at the Cook Funeral Home, and Friday from 11:30 am - 1 pm at the funeral chapel. If desired, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Faith Hospice-Trillium Woods or Grand Rapids Southwest Young Life.
