For those who could not attend, a second service of remembrance for family and friends will be held in Grandville at Cook Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, May 14, with visitation at 10 AM, memorial service at 11 AM, followed by lunch. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guestbook online at www.cookcares.com.
His extended family has been blessed with many fond memories to sustain them; of summer times spent on Barlow Lake and Gun Lake or warm winter days in the Bradenton area, golfing and bowling or just relaxing in good conversation. Russ was passionate about music and singing especially when accompanied on the piano by wife Dottie. During their 55-year marriage they used these gifts to express their enduring faith and share God's love with others. Family was central to Russ' life and he was so proud of his sons and grandchildren and what they have become and will accomplish! Born in Grand Rapids Russ was a South High graduate and served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard. He then began a 33-year career as a 'telephone man' for Michigan Bell and AT&T, continuing to use his skills into retirement helping friends. He raised his family in Kentwood where he enjoyed restoring classic Ford Mustang cars. Russ and Dottie took pleasure in traveling together to create lifelong memories making trips to New Zealand and taking in beautiful sights in Alaska, and from coast-to-coast in the states and Canada.
