Simon Junior Koster, age 75, of Grandville, finally went home to live in Heaven on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. He was born to Simon and Florence (VanderVeen) Koster on January 4, 1936. He attended Grandville schools and graduated in 1955. He married Marian Kooienga on June 14, 1956. Simon had 4 daughters and 1 son. Simon is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Marian Koster (Kooienga); and his five children, Nancy (Mike, deceased) Geelhoed, Bethann and Steve Broersma, Vicky and Steve Avink, Sandy and Dave Jongekrijg, Rod and Jamie Koster. He is the proud and loving grandpa of 16 and the great grandpa to 26. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends and special former employee and friend, Jay Kraima (Wilma). Si drove truck delivering milk for Carnation before working and owning Simon Koster & Son with his father for over 50 years. Simon is also the founder and developer of Sie-Rod Development in Koster Estates which features K-Lake, designed by Simon. Each street in the Estates is named after his family. He is so proud of this Estate that whenever he came home for a special occasion he would want to be taken through HIS streets. On Camp Lake in Sparta, was a cottage that was owned for 30 years by Simon, too. And many memories of holidays, church functions and just plain family time were spent there until the fall of 1999. A condo was also purchased a couple of years before Si suffered his first stroke in July of 2003. It was extremely sad to see that he only had a couple years to enjoy his home away from home. Simon was a faithful and loving Christian man and enjoyed singing on the tractor while plowing the South 40. You could hear him at this home singing with his daughter, singing in his church choir, or leading the song service at his church. His favorite song to sing was always "At Calvary.a?? These last eight years were especially hard to see such a vibrant and vocalized man never being able to sing his song again. Every time we hear this favorite song of his it may bring tears of sadness as we miss him, but also tears of happiness and a smile and love in our hearts. We will surely hear our wonderful, loving husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa, Simon Junior Koster's voice above all, and we will always remember how the Lord will lead us and guide us all along the way. The family would like to thank Heartland Crestview for the love and care that they gave to Simon these last eight years following his strokes in July of 2003. The family would also like to thank Faith Hospice in Byron Center for keeping Simon comfortable and free from pain in his last week of life with his family and friends.
