Your parents have been pillars of the Grandville community and it's sad to let the good old times go. I remember going to the Grill on Fridays after football games when they still had the car hops. Those were the good old days for sure. I lost both my parents within 18 months so the empathy I have for you has encouraged me to let you know that I'm thinking of you. I will always remember the time Ted got to go to Bluewater with the Boys. We had a great week and your Dad was a joy to be around. I will also never forget the last hole on the last day the year your Mom was diagnosed with cancer. Two grown men, really great friends, crying together as we left the green. Dear Doug, Dan, Deb and families...
 Though it has been a few years since I worked in the RG kitchen, I have such strong memories of Ted... those great big hands gripping a coffee pot or scooping ice cream. For me he was an image of success; a thriving business and a loving family. Nearly everyone who walked in the front door was a friend. His big heart was plain to see every time he was around family. He would pretty much glow with pride and love. His gentle caring extended to employees making us feel like part of the family. I feel for your loss. Ted and Helen were very special to me, and our entire family. I was their paper boy in the 1950s. They always gave me the best Christmas tip I received, and I have tried to conduct myself in the same spirit of generosity. It was always a special treat to see them in the Rainbow, and spend some time with them. They exemplified what is great about Grandville, and what made it such a special place to grow up. We love them very much, and look forward to a Heavenly Grandville reunion with them both.

I send my sympathies to Ted's family for my mother, Ruth Beck, as well as for myself. Ruth attended Zion Reformed Church from its beginning and loved going to the Rainbow Grill. I,too, have fond memories of my life in Grandville as a teenager. My first accident was hitting one of the posts as I drove away from the car service! I have known your Dad and Grandpa since stopping at the Grill when it was quite different during my high school years. I was fortunate having had most of the Zondervans in my classes/sports at Grandville High School. Your Dad/Grandpa was always at the school events and was so supportive not only of his kids/grandkids but also of GHS. He always stopped to chat and always had a kind word. You have my prayers and deepest sympathy.

I knew your parents mostly from seeing them at the Big Star Lake chapel. They were such a classy couple. I hated it when we would see your dad come to the services alone. Now they are together again but what a loss for your family. I will always think of them when we boat past their cottage which was across the lake from ours ours on Big Star. To Ted's Family, 
 My sincere sympathy for your great loss. 
 I would have to say that I have many fond memories of working for Ted at the Rainbow during H.S. and my first year at Hope. It was my first job. Ted was always very patient when I had excuses for this or that, but he occasionally had to get stern when I spent too much time talking or flirting with the customers or noton the lot. 
 My Mom made the homemade pies at the Grill for years. I remember her leaving the house very early on the days she worked. Her name was Gladys DeYoung. She and Ted worked together to keep an eye on me. I always wondered how she knew that I sometimes took a smoke ride after getting off at midnight. 
 Ted set the tone for the Rainbow and the employees. He expected hard work, quality work, honesty, courtesy, and friendliness and he delivered no less himself to anyone. I have no doubt our characters were being shaped by his care and example.
 I am grateful to have had the chance to visit with Ted a couple of years ago while I was visiting in MI.
