

MONROE The Tigers lost a dedicated fan when Wayne S. Monroe WWII Navy Vet, age 88 went to be with his Lord, Saturday, January 24, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Madge and Otis C. Monroe; brother Otis A. Monroe and sister Arly Vinkemulder; son Jeffrey Monroe.
He will be remembered by his wife of 65 years, Verla Monroe; children Marc Monroe, Bruce (Della) Monroe, Brandon Monroe, Jody (Randy Yeakey) Beukema, Troy Monroe: siblings Shirley Goldammer, Leila Hofstra, Marcy Maentz; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Wayne was known for being Superintendent of Maintenance at Reynolds Metals, former owner of Rockford Hotel, Chairman of the Byron Township Planning Commission, and his support for the Byron Township Historical Society.
Visitation will be held from 6-8PM Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Cook Funeral Home - 2067 84th St, Byron Center, MI. Memorial service will be held at 1PM Wednesday, January 28, 2015 with visitation one hour prior at Byron Center United Methodist Church - 2490 Prescott, Byron Center, MI. Pastor Larry Nichols will be officiating. Luncheon after the service will celebrate the lives of Wayne and his brother Otis "Spike" Monroe. Interment will be at Winegar Cemetery.
