To the Monroe family -- My Dad (Gerald Berghorst) worked with Mr. Monroe for many years in the Maintenance Dept. at Reynolds working on all the presses and fixing anything else that broke down and they played baseball together on the Reynolds Metals team many years ago. Many memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Uncle Wayne was a very funny guy who really understood the rotten Dyer boys. I will really miss him but I will never forget him.

Wayne was my Supervisor for many years at Reynolds Metals Company. I started working for Wayne as a maintanance laborer and then as an apprentice and finally as a journeyman mechanic. Wayne had a reputation for being able to get anything fixed and running again. He was not afraid to get his hands dirty (in fact I think he liked it) and often jumped in to give us hand on any difficult job. Much of the machinery we worked on was huge to the point that we often had to use large wrenches that were turned with a crane often accompanied by sledge hammer blows to the bolt we were trying to loosen or tighten. Waynes ability with a sledge hammer was legendary!
 When I started at Reynolds I was 18 years old. Just a kid. But I was fortunate to have been placed in the Maint. Dept. where I worked with and learned from real men like Wayne Monroe. Wayne was able to help me understand how some of the machinery worked when no one else could and more than once he got me out of some jams that I had gotten into. Wayne was a great mentor, boss, teacher, co-worker and I considered him a good friend. He will be fondly rememberd and missed. My condolences to his family.

Verla, Jody and the Monroe family. I was so sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. I remember with fond memories the times we spent together in Florida. Wayne and Verla were good friends and great neighbours. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Wayne was a very long time friend of my family. His Dad was my mothers teacher, I went to school with his sister Leila, his Dad bought my great, great uncles house (Troy lives there now), and he was a personal friend and made a BIG difference in the Historical Society and Museum. I worked closely with him to help restore the walls downstairs and he helped us set up the displays and tell us what everything was used for. He always stopped by for a cup of coffee, a hug, and to see what needed to be done. Since he worked in the building while working on the planning commission so many years, who else would we ask? In the last few years I even called Wayne to come and show the new guy HOW TO DO IT!!!! He just smiled and showed him! He was so proud when we presented him with a plaque, which hangs on the wall, naming his family as the founders of the first library in Byron. He was one of the first men who were interviewed for the Veterans Program, we helped with along with BCTV and Grand Valley University. He is one of only two we chose to present a Veterans cane hand carved with his accomplishments in the Navy. Wayne was very much respected and loved by us all. He will be truly missed! My Mother and I were so sorry to hear of Wayne passing away. Our deepest sympathies to all of the Monroe family. I went to school with Jody and knew her family for many years.
