

William J. DeWitt, age 98, died from pneumonia on February 15, 2014 in Jenison. Bill, a life-long resident of the Grand Rapids area, spent his career as a teacher, principal and coach at Grandville High School, retiring in 1977. He was also very active in his church and community. He was preceded in death by his infant brothers, John and James, his wife, Muriel, and son, Thomas.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Matthew Collins of Ypsilanti, and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home (East building, corner of Chicago Dr. and Division), 4235 Prairie SW, Grandville, with Rev. Peter Kooreman of Grandville-Jenison Congregational Church officiating. Relatives and friends may meet Bill's family March 1 from 12:30-1:30p.m. until the time of the memorial service. Those unable to attend the visitation or memorial service may sign the family's Memory Book at www.cookcares.com.
