I remember my South High and Junior College English teacher/instructor with fond memories. I can still hear Bill's distinctive laughter. 
 I went on to become an elementary teacher at Kelloggsville Public Schools. I retired 3 years ago after teaching for 34 years. Bill certainly had some part in all that.

We send our love and prayers. Bill and all the Dix family have a fond and memorable corner in our hearts. Bill was a valuable coworker, counselor, and friend during our ministry in Grandville. We share your loss and covet the memories. I often used the following which you may recall. "The grave is but a lie, tis life is truth, And death, how'ere it comes, opens the door to God. To nurse the grievance of the grave is sin, And useless to seek to understand The way in which the door of death swung open. Your loved one has passed on. Please accept my sympathy on Bill's death. My prayers are with Liz, their children and grandchildren...and to Liz's sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Martin Story. Also, prayers and good thoughts go out to Bill's sister, Mary Louise, who is a dear old friend of mine.

Mr Dix was my teacher for most of the English classes I took during the years I attended South High School until I graduated in 1965. I am so sorry to hear of Bill's death. He made such an impact on me when I was his student that I ended up teaching British Literature at GVSU and GRCC. Every time I see a green pen I think of him. We have lost a good man, and the world will be a sadder for it. Wendy Hedrick

I was saddened by the news of his passing. He was my High School and Junior College teacher. But not just a teacher. He instilled in me that I determined the outcome of my life and that nothing was impossible. For that I am very grateful. Loved his laugh.

I am saddened to learn of Bill's departure. He will always be most fondly remembered by me as one of the three or four best teachers I have ever had. Proof for this is in mentioning him to my family just the other day at breakfast to my son and daughter who are high school freshman and senior respectively and I was contrasting their current teachers with one or two that I remember as the best of my experience from K through college. Bill was kind, knowledgeable, engaging and treated us all with respect. He had a unique ability to make his pupils think about the intrinsic meaning of language, and not to just take things at face value. I was fortunate to enjoy his instruction as a junior at South High School and a Freshman at Grand Rapids CC formerly Junior College. Please except my most sincere condolences for the passing of a truly great teacher and a wonderful man.
