Mike was born June 19, 1937 in San Bernardino, California and passed away May 22, 2023 in Grants Pass, Oregon. All his life he had a love of cars. When he was just 8 years old, he would tell his grandfather what every car in a parade was. When he was asked how he knew, he told his grandpa, he just knew.
When he was 12, he moved with his parents to Grants Pass and graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1955. Most of his working life was spent working in the mills as a lathe operator which he really liked and was then bumped up to head millwright. His motto was if somebody built it, he could fix it and he did.
His side job was building street rods for people and his work was always beautiful even though he didn't think he was good enough. He built several for himself. He won many awards for his cars. He was a safety inspector for the National Street Rod Association for almost 20 years and was thought very highly of.
His safety boss said he was one of the best employees he ever had. He belonged to Jefferson State Street Rods club for many years.
He married his first wife, Marlene LaHaie and they had 3 sons, Ricky, Rustey and Robbey. After Marlene's death he married Elaine Funk and acquired two step sons. They enjoyed many years of going to rod runs and traveling.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Dan & Katherine Gorman and his sister, Janice Gorman-Cottrell.
He is survived by, in addition to his wife, his three sons, two stepsons and their wives; two grandsons, 1 granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, one great-grandson, and one on the way; 7 step-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren; his brother in law Lloyd Cottrell, two sisters in law, Corrine and Gwen, along with lots of nieces and nephews.
