Joey and I were two out of four grandchildren that were all born within 5 months of eachother.  Zoe, Joey , Cait ,and Alison. The fantastic four! Joey visited my family and our grandparents fairly often as we were growing up. He always came up with fun things to do at grandmas house if we were bored, He played dress up with me but over all he was my best friend.  When I first found out my best friend was gone without saying goodbye I burst into tears, I could barley hold in my sobs at his memorial. I felt like it should have been longer or we should’ve talked about him more. It was strange to see all of our extended family so early in the year since we see them every summer at a family reunion. But seeing them so soon because of the circumstances felt like we truly had all the love there to remember him. I try to talk to him whenever I’m having a hard time, I know he’s looking over me. My stories and memories of my cousin will live on in my heart forever , and so will his smile. So thank you to my best friend for making growing up not seem so bad. I love you so much Joey , you’re always on my mind and in my heart. Forever yours,Cait

I can’t even begin to tell you how much i loved joey. he was there for everyone no matter what, joey was the most accepting comedic and amazing kid i’ve been around in a long time i will never forget joseph o’shea. i wasn’t able to control myself at his funeral i was crying as hard as i could to the point where i couldn’t breath. i can only feel for his family who had to go through the horror of losing a loved one. it’s the worst thing a person can emotionally go through, i will always remeber you joey we love you and will always love you

I had the joy of being Joey's uncle. His parents, brother and entire extended family will miss him dearly.  It was quite moving to see so many attend his memorial service. My prayer is that 
those who were touched by his life will find comfort in the Lord Jesus Christ. 

I was Joey's 7th grade ELA teacher.  This world has lost a truly wonderful young man!
Words cannot express the pain I feel for his family and his friends.
His infectious smile made my day.....every day. He made me smile.
I feel very fortunate to have been a very small part of his school life.  I will never forget him.  My heart is heavy.

Joey was in my flight for JROTC. He was a good friend and one time he had a bottle of water on his desk. I remember seeing him pick it up and walk to the back of the room. I walked back there with him and he said “Check this out Mitchell”. He then took the water bottle and unscrewed the cap. Then he crushed the water bottle towards his mouth and chugged the water. He consumed the entire bottle in about 3 seconds. After that we had to report in for class and when he finished his reporting in I looked over at him. He was burping constantly and he almost brought the water back up. We both were laughing and Joey looked at me and said “Don’t ever let me do that again. I don’t wanta throw up during reporting again.”  Needless to say I never let him do it again. Joey always had a good since of humor and never  failed to make me laugh during our JROTC period. 

To the family of Daniel “Joey” O’Shea
I knew him as Joey, not really O’Shea or anything else since I knew him before rotc. I had known Joey  from around 6th grade till now. We got a lot closer in orchestra last year. I played cello but our sections were close enough. He made me laugh a lot and was a super genuine person. When I found out last semester that he was in my ROTC class period I was so happy. Because I had a friend there who would support me and I’d say we became a lot better and closer of friends. Everyday me, Nathan, and Joey would all walk to our next class together and we would chat about our day and about our time at shadow ridge. There are so many jokes and memories I have of Joey. We were even wingmen for a football game one time and we waved and cheered on all our friends. We both had a lot of the same friends because we came from the same type friend group. Honestly it hit me hard when I heard about what happened. But I feel blessed and happy to know such an amazing person like Joey. He was genuine, kind, funny, and all around amazing.  I’m glad I was able to attend the funeral/ memorial and was able to pay my respect and be able to honor Joey. I’m am deeply sorry for your loss and I will make sure to keep your family and Joey in my prayers. ( I wish i could share some photos but I don’t have any on my iPad )

i didn’t know joey that well but we were in bravo flight together in rotc and he made the class so much more fun. he would always say something funny that would make everyone laugh and be happy. he was also really good at   saber and i think he would’ve made the team he was always better than me but i love you joey and i hope you are resting in peace.

Joey was always so sweet to everybody in his Mom’s class. Mrs. O’ Shea was such a wonderful Mother to him. I’m very sorry about his passing.

Words can’t properly express how deeply sorry I am for the loss of Joey. Though I did not have the privilege of meeting him personally I have read and heard nothing but amazing things about him. Your family will forever be in our prayers.

Joey was such a nice person. I remember everyone always talking about him positively.  You could see him everywhere you went; he was always someone’s role model. In sixth grade, I dropped all of my books everywhere and he was the only one to help me. He was such an amazing person and will forever be missed. We will remember him. My hopes and prayers are with his family in this awful time.

 I was Joey's 7th grade science teacher and I remember him as such a kind person.  He would stay a little after class and would often have very insightful comments and questions.  I am so sorry to hear of Joey's passing. Your family is in my prayers. 

Joey was a kind-hearted, sweet, funny, talented guy. He never failed to put a smile on my face, and I’m grateful for having him in my life. I’ll never forget all those times he made me play Minecraft or Roblox with him all night long just to make fun of me for not knowing how to play, or those times I went to him when I needed to talk to someone. He was there for me through a lot of tough times, and I’ll love and miss him forever. May God bless his family. 

Last semester, I was Joey's flight commander in JROTC. Although he was one of many first-years, he stuck out of the crowd. He had a drive to learn and a talent for making people smile. Him and some of the other freshmen would often yell "mom" to get my attention if they passed me in the hallway. He was very openly excited to be a part of the corps family. Although we lost fight of the flights, he would still enthustically say "bravo flight, best flight!" You will be missed O'Shea. Once a cadet, always a cadet.

I met Joey when I taught first grade at Old Settlers. He was in my daughters’ class. They were also in Encore’s Beauty and the Beast play together. He was her very best friend. I would often walk in my daughter’s room and they would be on FaceTime. I knew it was him because he would always greet me with that sweet voice “hi Mrs. Stephens!” I would often check with him when they were talking on what was new. He always had a smile on his face when I saw him, had the best manners, and quite a funny personality. He will be deeply missed and he was the sweetest friend my daughter could ever have. 

Ima friend of Alec barzanallana and he would always tell me what a great  friend he was and how he was the definition of happiness and I just want to say I am sorry for the loss of Joey and wish you all the best. 

I had both Joey and his brother in first grade at Old Settlers. My heart goes out to your family.  I have had your family in my prayers.  Joey had the best smile that would light up the classroom.  I have wonderful memories of Joey as a kind and sweet boy that was a friend to everyone in first grade.

Joey used to spend the mornings playing cards with his friends in the library. I always enjoyed talking with him because Joey had such a fun personality. He will be greatly missed.

Out of all the people in my life who I cared about, I never thought I’d lose Joey. He was such a good person who would drop almost whatever it was he was doing to talk to someone or help them smile. His compassion had almost no limit as did his love for his friends. He was smart, brilliant, taleneted... he was everything in this world that was good and so much more. Him and I were very close and this loss is extremely taxing on us all, especially his family. The words don’t exist to describe how sorry I am for you all, and I know that none of us would ever thought something like this would happen. When we would talk, we would always joke about even the darkest things in our lives and we’d always manage a smile out of eachother. I was one of the weirder kids in elementary and middle school and Joey didn’t care at all. He was so kind and sympathetic to those he called his friends. He was selfless for their well being, and he helped me through my hells many times. It’s appalling to believe that someone as great and loving as him is no longer with us. I can’t accept the fact that I’ll never see his face again or hear his laugh and voice. He was a brother to me. I loved him so much, and I will continue to love him in memory of the amazing person he was. I wish I could just say goodbye and tell him I loved him one more time. I wish there was more I could’ve done. It still seems so unreal that a best friend since Kindergarten is gone. Our laughs, our fights, our sympathies for eachother... it’s horrid to think that there are no more opportunities for them to take place. I’m not ready to say goodbye to you but I realize I have to. Thank you for being so good to this world and everyone you knew. You changed so many lives for the greater good and you were always so helpful to others. You didn’t deserve whatever you were going through. Of all people, not you. Never you. We’ve lost a good man, but Heaven gained a greater saint. May you fly high, Brother. We all love you.

Joey was in my orchestra last year. He was such a joy to be around  and it was always nice to talk to him in the office after rehearsals. I’m really sorry about what happened.

Joey has been one of my good friends since 1st grade. I was new to old settlers. And I never had anyone to play with at recess. He was the first one to hangout with me and play with me. I miss him so much! I will never forget him ever. 


Though I only met Joey when I was in seventh and he was in eight. I felt that I had known him forever. He gave me advice that I will never forget. He told me “When life gets you down buddy, you get up, and you push back” and he helped me get stronger. I will miss him, he will always be my friend. 

Joey and I had the purest friendship. We would spend all hours of the night on the phone talking about our dreams, complaining about school, or making fun of my clumsiness or his Ukiyo cards. All he wanted to do was make people laugh. He would give me that loud smile and I would just burst out laughing, sometimes having to leave the room. My parents always knew when i was talking to Joey because i would laugh histerically, a little too loud, and Joey would just sit there and tilt his head saying “Yeah Bryana, shut up!” He was the kindest, funniest, and smartest person I had ever met. Joey changed my life. 

Joey and I became friends on the first day of middle school.  He was always kind-hearted, and would always help anyone that struggled. When I had bad days, he would start talking to me, and it would automatically put a smile on my face. Joey would keep your biggest secrets, and he always had your back. He was such a great friend that was very hard to find. Joey will always be missed by all of us.

As a family, we will always be thankful for Joey's kindness to our son as a new student to SRMS. It is rarely ever an easy transition to a new school.  Calin would comment, "Joey is a kind person with a welcoming smile. He makes a joke that creates a historical laugh." Joey had such a positive impact on so many individuals that it is unmeasurable. Our prayers are with the family through this time and more.

Joey will always be remembered for his smile and being a good friend to everyone.  John met Joey in kindergarten and also had him in 3rd grade class.  The attached picture was from the 3rd grade Holiday party.  Joey sat right next to John at the stations.  He also came to John's Legoland birthday party that same year.  John remembers how cool he thought Joey was because he taught him about Minecraft mods.  Even though they never shared a class again, Joey and John would still greet each other with a smile and a Hi in the 9th grade halls.

Joey was a friend of mine who I met in kindergarten. He was always so kind-hearted and considerate. He could brighten up a room with just a laugh or even a smile. Joey was the type of guy to do anything for someone in need. Truly one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. Joey was always so cheerful in anything he did. You could trust him with everything and he always had your back. That’s a real friend right there. He always made the funniest perfect timing jokes that that everybody would laugh at. He was such a great guy. Every single memory we had was always one to cherish. Joey was loved by so many, and he will be missed.

I cannot fathom your grief but pray that you all may find peace.   I pray that Joey finds peace as well.  
I remember both of your boys at OSE.  Joey was always so eager and happy. I loved working with him in math because he knew he had to work hard and he did.  He was so pleasant  and sometimes, when he should have been working a little harder perhaps, he would give me that grin and I’d fall for it every time. He was such a pleaser!  He could turn a bad moment into a good one with that smile.

We have been praying ever since we heard. We know no words are adequate. So tremendously sorry that you know this pain. Asking the HolySpirit to comfort like only He can. We hope you feel loved on, as you have poured so much into our kiddos. Sending so much love & prayers every time you come to mind. 

We remember Joey coming to help everyone setting up for a family gathering at Sleepy Hollow in Michigan. He was so helpful and would do anything needed with a smile.  He will be missed so much, and is always in our hearts.

Only had one period with him but he was an instant friend in a new environment. At the time where I knew nobody, he instantly became my friend and made me feel welcome. Miss you Joey 

I didn’t know Joey very well. He was one of the first kids I met when I moved here in seventh grade. I sat with him and his friends on and off at lunch, and I remember that he was such a funny guy. One of my friends made up a nickname for me that year, and Joey caught on, so every time we saw each other, he would call me “Gail”. I didn’t really like the nickname, but it was always nice when it came from him. I hadn’t seen him for most of Freshman year, but a few days before his passing, I saw him in the hallway while I was working. He stopped in front of me and said “Gail?” and I said hi back and laughed a little bit, before I turned back to my work. I regret so much not continuing that conversation. 

Joey, you touched so many people in your lifetime, and you left way too soon. You were such a nice guy, and I’m really going to miss you.

Joey was an amazing person. He has made me laugh so many times throughout the years. He was a good kid. All throughout middle school I ate lunch with him almost every day. We would play card games at the table, and have fun outside of school. We would hangout at the park, and play video games together, and swim together. I’m going to miss him, and I’m giving my  prayers to his family and friends.

I remember Joey from going to Old Settlers and FMHS with him. He was a very smart, bright, and talented kid who always made people laugh. He was very optimistic and kind to other people. We all miss him so much. Fly high Joey.

Jack and Joey have been friends since kindergarten at Old Settlers Elementary. Jack was so impressed with Joey’s writing.  He told me so many times what an awesome writer he was! He also loved to play video games with him.  The boys had a friendship through many years.  We will miss him.
