

Bedford – Martha Martin Davis, 89, loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Memorial Services: 1 pm, Sunday, January 11th at the United Methodist Church of Steamboat Springs. Martha was preceded in death by her parents Quenton and Eura Martin and her husband of 51 years, Dr. Edwin Davis, Jr., and her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen and Nolan McKean. Martha is survived by her children, Marty and Debbie Davis of Bedford, TX, Sharon and David Smith; her granddaughter, Keegan Rogan; her sister, Norma Fordyce and Norma’s family. Martha never knew a stranger. She was loveable, engaging, persevering, kind, witty, gracious and generous. She was poised, stylish and intelligent. She loved to entertain and serve delicious meals. Art was her passion. She was a creative and talented painter of (pastel, acrylic, watercolor, oil, and pen and ink) portraits, landscapes, old houses and still life. She embraced art workshops and cultivated art guilds. Martha attended Gulf Park College in Gulf Port, Mississippi and made lifelong friends. She graduated from Southern Methodist University and embarked on a career in public relations and community service. She managed the mail order department for Neiman Marcus, was secretary to the executives at Fort Worth National Bank and later in life became a realtor. In addition to her passion for art, she was active (often an officer) in many organizations including her church, Chi Omega sorority, Junior League, Women’s Club, children’s Sunday School, Scouts, children’s theater, Medical Auxiliary, and the West Texas Museum. She enjoyed travel, bridge, golf, reading, gardening, not skiing, and most of all, family. Martha lived in Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, and enjoyed 13 years of friendship, fellowship and fun in Fairfield Glade, TN.
