He was born on August 31, 1954 in Montgomery, AL, to Charles Rogers and Marialyce Chapman Grubbs. His family lived in many cities for his father’s work during his childhood including Dothan, AL, Pueblo, CO, and Irving, TX. Stan graduated from Irving High School in 1972 where he lettered on the tennis team. He later attended UTA and transferred to UT Austin where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon (ΣΦΕ) fraternity.
Stan was proud of his 25+ year career in Aerospace technology with the Boeing Corporation, Elbit Fort Worth and Mercury Systems. His IT expertise was welcome at Frac Tec and Baylor Scott White in Temple, from which he had just retired. He was an avid fisherman and had years of adventures with his buddies on Lake Fork and with his dad, son, uncles and brothers in Florida’s Dead Lakes and Lake George. Stan played sports in his youth and was a lifelong fan of the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Stan enjoyed the live music scene in Austin and developed a lifelong eclectic taste in music with an incredible memory for musicians, song writers and performers, especially appreciating Leon Russel. He deeply appreciated the arts and films, and spent many afternoons taking in the displays at museums and fine art galleries with his beloved wife and children.
Stan was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Deborah Stewart Grubbs, and his father. He is survived by his mother of Dothan, AL, his beloved son Stewart Grubbs, daughter Sabrina Grubbs Hurley (Sean) and his precious grandchildren Leo Hurley and Luke Hurley who will miss their adoring “BoomPa”. Also surviving are his siblings Charles “Roddy” Grubbs, Jr. (Melody Wyman) of NH, Lyn Grubbs Felling (Christopher) of SC, John Howard Grubbs and Stephen Arnold Grubbs, both of AL, his god-daughter Katrina Alese Grubbs and numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family.
A memorial service will be held July 3, at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation ALZ.org to help fight the disease that took Deborah and deeply affected Stan.
