

Calvin is survived by his wife, Hedda; their children and spouses: Wayne Batwin and Sandy Huffman, Donna Batwin-Chonigman and Phil Chonigman, Linda Batwin O’Donovan and Gene O’Donovan. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Marnie Huffman-Green and Ciara Wentworth, Alison Batwin, Benjamin Chonigman, Rebecca Chonigman, Jacob O’Donovan, Sarah O’Donovan, James O’Donovan and his great-grandchild Stevie Abigail Wentworth.
Calvin Batwin was born on February 28, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY to Ethel and Philip Batwin. He graduated from NYU in 1945 with a master’s degree in Public Administration. He is a World War II Veteran and served in the United States Army Signal Corps under General Patton’s Third Army in 1945. He married Hedda Eleanor Gerber on October 22, 1949. After moving to Holliswood, NY, he began working for his father at the Timor Watch Company in sales. In 1954, he started Turnpike Lumber with his brother-in-law Ira Lubin, which was in business for over 30 years. After retiring in 1986, Calvin went back to school at Queens College to study Judaica Studies and History. He also volunteered his time at the Better Business Bureau, was a passionate tennis player, an avid reader and bridge player. He travelled all over the world with his wife Hedda and enjoyed life in Great Neck for 58 years. Calvin was a kind man with a great sense of humor. He was an active member of Temple Emanuel in Great Neck. In 2013, Calvin and Hedda Batwin moved to Stamford, Connecticut to be closer to their children.
A funeral will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 10:15am at the Riverside-Nassau North Chapel at 55 North Station Plaza, Great Neck, NY 11021.
