Cary Stuart Jettelson, a resident of Great Neck, NY, passed away on March 21, 2024 at the age of 66 after a one-year battle with brain cancer (glioblastoma). Cary was born on July 31, 1957 in Newark, New Jersey and was the son of Julius Jettelson (who predeceased him in 2005) and Trudy Jettelson. For the past year, Cary was being cared for at the Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation, but lived most of his adult life in his childhood home in Great Neck.
Cary was passionate about photography, camping and camping equipment, music, electronics, cats, fish, watches, cigars and pipes, steam trains and model railroading, airplanes, science fiction and old WWII movies. Cary had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoying the crazy antics of the Three Stooges, Mel Brooks, and Red Skelton. He loved following the weather and would warn his family to avoid traveling weeks in advance of any pending storm. Most of all, Cary loved his family and talking on the phone or spending time all together in person.
Cary is survived by his loving mother, Trudy Jettelson of Great Neck, sisters Lisa (Mike) Schiffman of Roslyn, NY and Nancy (Richard) Freedman of Stamford, CT, along with nieces Bonnie Schiffman, Deanna Schiffman, Rebecca Schiffman, Emily Freedman, Jessica Freedman and nephew Benjamin Freedman. Cary also leaves behind his beloved Norwegian Forest Cat, Punim. He was also grateful to his childhood friend Jim Marchione and former Great Neck Public Schools psychologist and friend Frank Lawrence (deceased). Over the years, Cary was fortunate to have been cared for by many wonderful home health aides whom he considered to be his brothers, Peterson, Jacky, Peterrol, Alex and Sony. Cary’s family is grateful to the staff at Parker Jewish for all their care and compassion throughout his illness and his oncology team at Northwell Health, Dr. Michael Schulder, Dr. Samuel Singer, and Dr. Anuj Goenka.
Donations in Cary’s name may be made to the Stamford Animal Shelter Alliance, www.stamfordanimalshelteralliance.org.
