

BARR--Lenore. December 26, 2013. Widow of Irving Barr. Beloved sister of Faith Wolitzer. Barr, Lenore DELMAR Lenore Greisman Barr, died peacefully at home on February 21, 2011. She was surrounded by her family during the last week of her life. She had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2006 and courageously fought to maintain her life. Lenore was born June 12, 1931 to Hyman Greisman and Anna Goldfine Greisman. She grew up in the Bronx, New York, and attended Hunter High School and graduated from Hunter College, Phi Beta Kappa. She later received a masters degree in school psychology from City College, and a masters degree in criminal justice, SUNY Albany. Lenore was devoted to helping others. She spent her professional life working as a school psychologist, lastly with the RCG-BOCES, and was an invaluable friend and mentor to many others. She volunteered with NGOs in India and Thailand, as well as with service organizations in the Albany area. Lenore and her husband, Martin Barr, lived for over 50 years in Delmar, New York. Together they enjoyed travelling extensively, visiting China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Mexico, Turkey and many other countries. Together they made many close friends who remained devoted to Lenore throughout her life, and through the course of her illness. In addition to her husband of 56 years, Lenore is survived by her four daughters, Sharon, Elissa, Judi and Naomi Barr; grandchildren, Adam Hoskins, Rachel, and Joshua Salzberg, and Sadie, and Isaac Graber; sons-in-law Pete Hoskins, David Salzberg and Jeff Graber; her brother, Bernard Greisman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be private. Shiva will be observed at the Barr home from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, and mourners are welcome to join the family. A celebration of her life will be held in May. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Lenore's memory to an organization that reflects the values with which Lenore lived her life.
