

Gross, Marvin, 86, of Boynton Beach, FL and previously of N. Massapequa, NY lost his valiant three month battle against non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and bladder cancer on September 27, 2014 with his family by his side.
Our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and so much more to so many people, passed away peacefully and quietly with extraordinary dignity - the same way he lived his life.
Born July 6, 1928 in New York City to the late Irving and Sally (nee Weiner) Gross, he leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Mindy (nee Crystel); children Sharon and Glen Handel of Medford, NY; Larry and Lori Gross of Great Neck NY; and Sandy and Mark Pennecke of Chesapeake, VA; seven grandchildren, Andrew and Alyssa Handel, Joshua, Joel and Jarett Gross, and Alexander and Carley Pennecke; sister and brother-in-law Ilene and Jack Cohen of Boynton Beach, FL; and niece Ilyssa and Steve Fox, their children Bradley and Emily; and nephews Mark and Alan Cohen.
A Cpl. in the United States Army, he served with the Counterintelligence Corps during the Korean War. Gross was a retired civil engineer of almost 40 years for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey who participated in the planning and building of countless roadways, bridges and tunnels in and around New York City.
During his retirement years, Gross enjoyed living in the Sunshine State, giving tours as a docent at The Flagler Museum for 22 years, volunteering at Palm Beach International Airport, JFK Medical Center, and Recording for the Blind.
He created amazing stained glass pieces of art, enjoyed gardening, reading biographies, doing small chores around the house, traveling throughout the United States, to Canada, Israel, the UK, France, England, Holland and Italy.
This dear and gentle man will be forever missed by family and friends.
Funeral at 1 p.m. October 1, 2014 at Riverside Nassau North Chapel, 55 North Station Plaza, Great Neck, NY, 11021. Burial to follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Queens, NY.
The family will be sitting shiva Wednesday afternoon through noon on Friday at 14 Surrey Road, Great Neck, NY.
