My condolences to family and other patients. Dr. Ilowite was my Rheumatologist after Dr. Lazar Fruchter went back to Israel to help create a way for Jewish students have health coverage. Dr Ilowite was a good doctor and at times I gave him a hard time. But he cared and knew my family.  If I was at the Hosiptal and just walked by him he would call my name ask me how I was doing and if my family doing well. He was a very caring doctor. And he would do the best he could to see that I got care that I need even if I had to see an adult Rheumatologist because of my age. He knew how to prepare me for that change for that,I will always remember him.

When I saw an article about Dr. Ilowite passing I shared it with my dad and he expressed his sadness and added  "He was an amazing dr". It's because of him that I am who I am today. Him treating me for Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis allowed me to fight off cancer later in life. My best memory of Dr. Ilowite was when my family ran into him at Pico ski area. We did a run together and he said to my parents "this is because of me" and without him I would have never gone skiing. I was treated by Dr ilowite from 1986 to around 1998 upon when I was declared in remission. He and the nurse who worked with him Ilene, were rock stars and literally life savers. May his memory be a blessing.

OMG, i just learned that Dr. Ilowite passed away. MY SINCERE condolences! He was the only doctor who treated my daughter and diagnosed the rare disease, He was the only person who i trusted and forever grateful to saving my daughter in her childhood when she was 7 months old while others said that she would not last for 2 years.  Now she she is 35! And I am forever grateful! God bless him and his family. THANK YOU and may god be with you! Bless your heart!

I was very sorry to learn the passing of Norman today.
I was his paediatric rheumatology fellow at Schneider for 18 months, 30 years ago. I had excellent training under Norm and he was fun to work with.  He had a good team. He was demanding ( to give the best care )  but  fair.  I arrived from Australia in January 1993 and there was a special meeting in Canada in March. I had not accumulated enough leave to attend the meeting. Norm personally asked the Chief of Hospital for special consideration  as he considered the meeting  was important for my education..  I was able to attend the meeting. 
He was kind to his patients.

Very sorry to learn today of Norm’s passing.  We interacted together at various pediatric rheumatology meetings over the years.  He was incredibly committed but always with a great sense of humour.  Please accept my sincere condolences.

I was so sorry to hear of Norm’s passing. Thinking of your family during this very difficult time and hoping that good memories will help you to heal. 
I worked with Norm for a number of years at Schneider Children’s Hospital. He taught me so much, not just about pediatric rheumatology but how he related  to his patients and their families with such dedication, optimism and enthusiasm.  I feel lucky to have known and worked with him as well as being a friend to Norm.

Condolences to the entire family - I never knew Norman nor do I think I've ever met any of Herman's descendants. My grandfather was Herman's older brother Irving.
You may be interested that I have an uncle named Norman Harry Ilowite who retired from practicing medicine at the age of 90, and is now 96 years old. You may also be interested that many of Norman's hobbies and passions are common within our extended family - we have skiers, photographers, and boaters.
Again, my deepest condolences and hopes for healing and good memories in the years to come. Even though it was far shorter than it should have been, it sounds like a life well-lived.

So sorry to hear from Cheryl about my good friend Normans passing. And sorry was unable to be at the services, but was fortunate to be able to follow it online, it was beautiful with great remembrances from Cheryl, Norman's children and friend Scott.
Norm and I met in the fall of 1971 at Rutgers when we were both Freshman, living in the same dorm, on the same floor.  We became fast friends, and stayed that way the next 50 years, until his passing.  I was fortunate to be able to have lunch with him not too long ago, thanks to Cheryl making it able.
He was a great friend,  he took me to visit his then girlfriend Cheryl at Stony Brook (not sure if she was setting me up with a friend, lol) and not long later I was at their wonderful wedding.     Norman loved Cheryl and his children intensely.    It was great hearing the memories of his sense of humor, he had it back then as well.  The fondness for Scotch I didn't know of however, lol, back in college it was always cheap beer.
He was very proud of his dad, and his exploits as a fighter pilot,  I was curious enough and read all about him. 
Anyway, I will always have great memories of Norman,  and hopefully we will all see him again  in person in the next life.

Cheryl, I am so sorry. When I think of Norman I see him and Bob, you and Susan sitting around the kitchen table in Cambria. Fond memories. Love, Stuart

Rutgers '75 fellow graduate, fellow biochemistry major and roommate. College was much easier for him than me. One smart dude. Stunned he only got into 1 med school, but that's all he needed. One smart dude. RIP.
