Passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 23 in her 86th year.
Beloved mother of Mark (Randie), Paul (MaryAnn), Neil (Terri) and Roy
(Kathy). Proud grandmother of Dara, Craig, Ruth, Isaac, Alexandra, Hannah,
Rachel, Brittany, Amanda, Miriam, Tyler, Deborah, Sarah, Nathan and
Elizabeth and great-grandmother of Ella. Devoted sister, cousin and
aunt, Survived by sister Fran (Carl) Rosenzweig and predeceased by
husband Bernard Gilwit. Shirley was born on May 31, 1926. She was
educated at Brooklyn College and obtained two Masters Degrees in
Education. She taught in the New York Public Schools and became a
reading specialist and facilitator. Her life-long love of learning and
appreciation of theater and the arts was an inspiration to all. Shiva
will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from 5PM-9PM at
the home of Fran and Carl Rosenzweig, 95 Club Pointe Drive, Harrison,
NY.
