Augusta Nell Kibby was born to Oliver Arthur Kibby and Laura Maude Crowley Kibby February 10, 1923, on the farm her grandfather, Theodore Austin Kibby, homesteaded in 1876, just a mile west and a mile south of Johnstown.
Gussie attended 1st through 12th grades in Johnstown and excelled in academics. At the age of 13 she met a new boy in her class (Lloyd Williams) who had just relocated to Johnstown from Oklahoma. That night she told her older sister, Emily, she “met the boy she was going to marry.”
They both graduated from Johnstown High School in 1940, and married in Kimball, Nebraska, February 14, 1942. They were married 73 years and eight months before Lloyd passed away in October 2015. Lloyd and Gussie have resided in Estes Park since 1946.
Gussie was an accomplished musician, artist, carpenter, wood carver and writer. She and Lloyd raised three sons who all completed grades K-12 in Estes Park.
Gussie was diagnosed with dementia in her early 80’s, and became progressively more dependent on Lloyd. Even though legally blind and nearly deaf, Lloyd cared for Gussie the last eight years before his health failed. Both Lloyd and Gussie then had Home Health and Hospice assistance the past two years, and were extremely grateful for the wonderful care provided to them.
Gussie is survived by sons Tom (Cindy) of Vale, OR, and Michael K. (Sheri) of Vale, OR; three grandsons Denali (Jen) of Seattle, WA, Ian (Carissa) of Seattle, WA, and Michael D. (Jenna) of Estes Park. She was preceded in death by her husband (Lloyd), one son (Daniel), one grandson (Kelly), three sisters (Emily, Beverly, and Bobbie), and her best friend (Marcella Blanchar).
A graveside service will be held Friday, February 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the Johnstown, Colorado cemetery (located just north of Hwy. 60 and Colorado Blvd, two miles west of Johnstown). Memorial donations may be made to the Estes Park Medical Center Ambulance Fund, in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 1302 Graves Ave., Estes Park, CO 80517.
Michael and Sheri would especially like to thank Dr. Erika Norris and all of the staff of Estes Park Home Health and Hospice, and Prospect Park Living Center for their unwavering care and support provided to the three of us during Gussie’s difficult journey the last few months.
