God called Bertha Colleen Zeis Hamlet back home January 3, 2012. She was a native Greeleyite as were her parents Theodore and Alice (Coons) Zeis. She grew up and met her husband in Greeley and married him on Christmas day 71 years ago. During WWII she lived in California and Washington.
She worked for the telephone company in Greeley for more than 40 years with 2 years at the telephone company in Grand Lake, Colorado. She worked through all the degrees of advancement and held different positions – starting with crank phones up to the push button and digital improvements.
She was very active and multi talented in several different things: Red Dale Campers, Merry Mixer Square Dancers, RV traveling, Telephone Pioneers, knitting and crocheting, Precious Moments Club, charter member of the Greeley Porcelain Art Guild, Ft. Collins Porcelain Palette Guild, and Weld County Rock and Mineral Club.
Bertha loved life and all the experiences it held passing that attitude on to her family and a multitude of friends. She began teaching and working ceramics for 70 years. She progressed to china painting and demonstrating for 61 years, up to December 26, 2011.
Because of her love of animals the family grew up in a menagerie; from donkeys to tiny poodles and everything in between. She was always seen with a little dog in her arms.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and had a deep faith and love for her God and Jesus.
Bertha is survived by her husband, Glenn Hamlet; children, Melanie Hamlet DeHart; Ted Hamlet (Kathy Keyser Hamlet) all of Greeley; Delyce Sue Ruyle (Spouse Philip Brubaker) of Georgetown, Texas; grandchildren, Steven Hobbs of Monument, Colorado, Gene Ruyle (Rita Ruyle), Scott Hamlet all of Greeley, Steven Hamlet (Nancy Hamlet) of Atlanta, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Tanner Hamlet of Loveland, Colorado, Allyson Hamlet of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces, Anita Niffenegger of Joliet, Illinois and Kathy Niffenegger of Kalona, Iowa; plus several great and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Dorothy Benjamin.
Visitation 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
