Born on July 25, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio, Carolyn dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband, Richard, of 65 years, and their five children.
Carolyn's greatest joy came from spending time with her family and fostering a loving environment. Carolyn's first job was working at Dairy Queen, which likely led to her lifetime love of ice cream! She loved working with nursery aged children at Red Bell Nursery in Plymouth, Michigan. Carolyn relocated to Greeley with her family in 1978, where she kept very active in the community. She is a two-time cancer survivor and enjoyed participating in the annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life, and also the Cattle Baron's Ball. She volunteered many hours at the Weld Clothing Bank, in addition to working at ProBATE Software Publishing Company for several years. Carolyn is referred to by many as a "social butterfly" -- she loved people! She lived at the Good Samaritan Water Valley Assisted Living and Memory Care for the past two years, where she had many friends and especially enjoyed playing BINGO!
She is survived by her husband Richard, children Rick (Rhonda) Housden, Chris (Steve) Schmerge, Barb (Dave) Selden, Jeff (Tami) Housden, and Sarah (John) Daly. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Carolyn is predeceased in death by her parents Ted and Alicia Hatzo, her brother Skip, her grandson Zachary, and her granddaughter Bree.
A Memorial Service for Carolyn will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 10:00am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1800 21st Avenue, Greeley, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
