One of Estes Park’s long time business owners and residents went to join his wife “Peggy” after a brief illness. Carroll passed away 24 October at the age of 84. He will be remembered at a Memorial Mass at 9 a.m. Saturday 29 October at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church. Please join the family for a reception/brunch following the service. Carroll was born to George F. Dermody and Mary Ann (Carroll) on 22 April, 1932. He grew up in Strasburg, Colorado where in his words, ‘he learned the value of hard work”. Following high school graduation he attended Trinidad Junior College and Western State College where he played football and basketball. A two year stint in the Army as a draftee and the opportunity to live in Germany followed. Oil field work and barber school were next on the agenda. He married Margaret (Peggy) Markley on Nov. 29, 1959 in Ft. Lupton, CO. After living in Ft. Lupton and Brighton he moved to Estes Park with his new bride in 1960. Carroll purchased the Village Barber Shop and operated the business until August of this year. The shop was a fixture in the community for 57 years. Politics, sports, card games and “problem solving” along with coffee and donuts were daily routines. Never a dull moment in this old fashioned barber shop. He is survived by his son Shon Dermody of Ft Collins, three daughters; Kelly Klein of Windsor, Sharon and husband Joe Diaz of Brighton, Karen and husband John Cleaver of Lakewood. He has seven grandchildren: Ryan Dermody, Kristen Dermody, Michael Dermody, Collin Klein, Kyle Klein, Joe Diaz and Maggie Cleaver.
