

Charles M. “Chuck” Kurtz was born in Alton, KS to Harry M. and Mildred (Niles) Kurtz.
Mr. Kurtz attended school in Osborne, KS until 1938 at which time the family moved to Ault. Mr. Kurtz lived in Ault from 1938 until his graduation from Ault High School in 1948. He then attended Colorado State College of Education (Now UNC). On June 17, 1949, he married Glenna L. Roberts in Greeley. In 1952 Mr. Kurtz jointed the United State Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict stationed at Lockbourne Air Force in Columbus, OH, until 1956. Following his discharge from the military he attended and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1958.
Upon graduation he joined the accounting firm of Robert R. Anderson and Company in Greeley. Mr. Kurtz became a Certified Public Accountant in 1959. He was a member and partner of various accounting firms in Greeley during the next 39 years. He joined the Colorado Society of CPA’s in 1960 and the American Institute of CPA’s in 1961. He served as Chairman of the Northern Colorado Chapter of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and served as Representative to the board of the State Society as well as many committees of the Society. In 1981 he was selected for the American Institute of CPA’s Washington Congressional Delegation.
Mr. Kurtz served on the Citizen’s Committee for School District Six, the Board of Directors of Weld County Youth Crossroads, Inc., Greeley Fireman’s Pension Board, and Greeley Urban Renewal Authority. He served as Deacon of the First Congregational Church, was a member of the Greeley Rotary Club, served the UNC Foundation Deferred Giving Committee and was a board member of the Weld County Hospital Foundation (now NCMC).
Mr. Kurtz enjoyed golf and was a member of the Greeley Country Club. He loved to travel and always traveled by automobile when time permitted.
Mr. Kurtz passed away on the evening of March 27, 2015.
He is survived by his wife Glenna Kurtz, Greeley; daughter Merilee Kurtz, Greeley; sons Gregory and wife Jan, Ft. Collins, and Jeffrey and wife Kelli, Phoenix, AZ; brother Kenneth currently living in Mexico; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild with another on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Maxine Davidson and Betty Smith.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Bonell Good Samaritan Chapel.
Cremation has been conducted and ashes will be strewn over the mountains.
