

Dorothy Ann “Dottie” Hakenholz, of Greeley, passed away on December 29, 2022 at the UC Health Hospital of Greeley. She was born on October 30, 1952, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Edmund J. and Rose (Parys) Matya.
Dorothy was a 1970 graduate of Bishop Ryan High School in Omaha, and attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She married Gerald Hakenholz on September 7, 1974, and together they had two daughters, Diana and Chrissy. Dorothy was employed at Werner Enterprises as a Fleet Assignment Clerk from 1999 until retirement. She was a devoted member of St. Gerald’s Catholic Church in Ralston until the family relocated to Greeley, Colorado in 2014. After the move, Dorothy became a parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a skilled and passionate quilter and she loved to hand paint ceramics of all kinds in her free time and at the Greeley Active Adult Center, and she enjoyed crafting as a whole. She was active in the church’s sewing group “Love to Stitch”. She was a kind, compassionate woman who loved with all her heart.
Dorothy is survived by her mother, Rose, husband Gerald, daughters, Diana Hakenholz and Chrissy (Pete) Desimone, grandson, Travis Desimone, brother, John (Lisa) Matya, sister-in-law, Lavonne Jensen and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the Allnutt Macy Chapel, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, at 4:00 p.m., a Rosary following at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 1250 7th Street, Windsor, Colorado at 2:00 p.m.
