He supported punch-card manufacturing, evaluated upgrades for U.S. Postal Service bulk-mail systems, and helped develop laser and LED/laser printers. One of his most challenging assignments was serving for five years on the Bell Labs functional integration and test team for the Safeguard anti-ballistic missile system—a radar-driven system designed to detect, track and intercept incoming ballistic missiles. He also worked on IBM's integration and testing of classified satellite-surveillance systems. After retiring from IBM, he spent several years consulting with an IBM printer design group in Boulder, Colorado.
