Elwin Eichhorst

Elwin “Ike” Eichhorst, 89, of Greeley, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at North Colorado Medical Center, Hospice unit. Ike was born on April 29, 1923 in Waldorf, Minnesota to Herman Ernest and Caroline (Bluhm) Eichhorst.

Ike was raised on a farm and attended school at Gustavus Adolphus.

He was a Math and Band teacher in Kiester, Minnesota, played the clarinet in a dance band and was co-owner of Campus Music Store in Greeley beginning in 1955 and retiring in 2003. Ike repaired instruments and gave lessons.

Ike was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church from 1955 to 2006, playing the organ for many years and directing the choir for a few years as well. He was currently a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Ike enjoyed photography and was a musician. He also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and tatting. He liked to do crossword puzzles, read and travel. He has taken a cruise to Alaska, a bus tour to Branson, a train trip down the west coast with stops at two National Parks and many road trips to Minnesota, Florida and one to Maine. He enjoyed being in the mountains. Ike played Pinochle once a month with friends from Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ike is survived by his nephew, Bradley (Sheri) Eichhorst of Verona, WI; nieces, Carol (Ronald) James of Northfield, MN, Gail (David) Radius of Kissimmee, FL and Pam (Grieg) Hodgkins of Russell, Manitoba, Canada and many great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Ernest Eichhorst and Caroline Bluhm Eichhorst, sisters, Esther Rasmussen and Ella Eichhorst, brother, Erwin Eichhorst and nieces, Laurie Manthe, Joanne Bode and Kari Scharfe.

Friends may visit from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
