Florence G. Smith

Mrs. Smith had a brother Colonel Gist, deceased and a sister, Gin (Gist) Bishop, deceased.

Mrs. Smith moved to Greeley, Colorado in 1928 with her parents, brother and sister. She attended the local schools graduating for Greeley High School in 1935. She attended C.S.C.E. now known as UNC for one year.

In 1936 she married John W. Swope of Greeley. They lived in Longmont, Colorado for several years where their daughter Judy was born. They returned to Greeley and later divorced.

Mrs. Smith was employed at J.C. Penny’s for many years.

In 1960, she married J. Stanley Smith of Greeley. After retirement, they made their home in Drake, Colorado.

Mr. Smith lost his life in the 1976 Big Thompson Flood. Mrs. Smith returned to Greeley and was once again employed at J.C. Penny’s until retiring in 1984

Mrs. Smith loved the beautiful Rocky Mountains and for many years, well into her 80’s, she enjoyed hiking the trails in many of her favorite spots.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her dear friend, Cyd Smith; a grandson, Thomas G. Sisson of Covina, California and a granddaughter, Stacey Lueck of Kansas City, Missouri, Several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside inurnment will take place at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
