October 31, 1929 ~ October 3, 2011
Age: 81~ Residence: Loveland, Colorado
Fran was mostly raised in an orphanage. She was four years old when her mother died. As a little girl she spent her summers with her father, a brother and two sisters in the high mountain ranges of southwest Colorado, helping to move supplies to her father's various sheep camps on the grazing ranges and keeping a small one room cabin warm and hospitable after a hard days work.
Her education at St. Scholastica's Academy prepared her to become a successful business woman owning and running a cattle ranch and later, when she and her husband retired, owning and running a liquor store.
She had three children while her husband served in the Air Force moving just about once every year, back and forth, across the United States. All along the way she was involved with charity work both in raising money and in education. Her love of family and her determination were as beautiful, vast and unmovable as those high Rocky Mountains that shaped her life from an early age. It kept her family together, safe and happy through the years.
Fran enjoyed bowling on leagues, baking cookies, crocheting, playing cards, sewing and traveling. She was also a Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies fan.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Lynn Kluck; sons, Kurt Michael Short and Keith Bernard Short; a sister, Ida Pomeroy; grandchildren, Aaron Short, Tonya Schissler, Robert Kluck, Cameron Rutz and Kelly Kluck. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Robert Short; a sister, Marie Bernard; brothers, Joseph Robert Bernard and John Bernard.
