F. Scott Thomas, formerly of Greeley, died Nov. 17. 2022 at Good Samaritan Senior Living Resort in Windsor, CO., after surviving cancer, heart disease and Parkinson's disease for many years. He is survived by his wife Pat, sons Matthew and Douglas, 5 beloved grandchildren, and his younger brother Craig Thomas. Scott was born 10/10/1937 in Alamosa, Colorado to Francis and Kathryn Thomas. His earliest years were spent in Salt Lake City, Utah. He spent most of his growing-up years in Denver, CO and was a graduate of East High School and the University of Colorado, Boulder. At CU he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. In 1966 he was married to Patricia (Pat) Boyd of Greeley.
Scott began his life long career in insurance as a commercial insurance underwriter for the Insurance Company of No. America. In 1971 the couple moved to Greeley where he became associated with Flood and Peterson Ins. Inc. and retired as a principal in the firm many years later. Scott was very involved in the Greeley community for years including involvement in several major fundraising campaigns including chairing the fund drive to raise $80,000 to send the Greeley Central band to the Blue Bonnet Bowl and service on the fundraising committees for the construction of the Union Colony Civic Center, and the Air Life Golf Tournament. He served on the NCMC Foundation Board of Directors and the Hospice Board of Directors. He was also a founding director of the Union Colony Bank. Scott was involved in Boy Scouting as a member, a father of two Scouts, and with service on the Longs Peak Boy Scout Council. With his wife, he and others helped found the Family of Christ Presbyterian Church. They also were involved with First Congregational Church. After his retirement, Scott and Pat moved to Steamboat Springs, CO where their second home of many years, became just home. Scott had many loves; first and foremost his family and especially his 5 grandchildren. He also loved the Colorado mountains, skiing, fly fishing and time with good friends on many fishing trips. He was an inveterate gardener and spent a lot of time raising beautiful flowers and yummy vegetables. He also loved sharing a glass of wine with family and dear friends. The family plans to hold a Memory Time in June for friends and family. Memorial gifts may be sent to the American Heart Association, the Parkinsons Foundation, or The Heart of Steamboat Methodist Church in Steamboat Springs.
