

He was born on May 29th, 1938, in Sterling, Colorado, to Virgle and Imogene Meacham, both of whom preceded him in death. His father, Virgle, was born in Belmond, Iowa, and his mother, Imogene, was born in New Raymer, Colorado. George was a graduate of Central City High School and went on to receive his Masters degrees in Gerontology and Psychology from the University of Denver. George had a very loyal and strong bond with God, which guided him throughout his life.
A proud veteran, George served his country in the Vietnam War. He initially joined the Army and later transitioned to the Air Force, where he became a paratrooper. He was a member of the esteemed 101st Airborne Division.
Professionally, George dedicated his time to caring for others. At Sunset Manor in Brush, Colorado, he served as the manager of adult foster care. He also worked at numerous mortuaries throughout Colorado.
George had a deep love for gospel music and enjoyed singing it immensely. He possessed a beautiful voice and made numerous recordings of gospel songs throughout his life. In his younger years, George and his older sister Maryann formed a singing group called "Little Song Birds." One memorable performance included the song "I'm in the Lord's Army" at Hillbilly Park in Newark, Ohio, a venue that hosted numerous famous singers such as Wayne Newton, Johnny Cash, and Hank Williams Jr.
An enthusiastic fan of horse racing, George diligently studied to pick winning horses. His dedication paid off when he won a paid trip to Las Vegas for the national horse racing event in March of 2025.
George's family has a historical connection to Belmond, Iowa, the birthplace of his father, Virgle, and his grandfather, George Washington Meacham. The Jenison-Meacham Art Museum and Farm stands as a testament to his family, and George visited the museum several years ago.
George was the devoted partner of Patty Heberlein. They shared 41 years together after meeting in Brush, Colorado.
He is survived by his sisters, Maryann Rogers and her husband Stan, Virginia Joosten and her husband Merle. Bonnie Oltmann (her husband John preceded him in death), and Jackie Curtis. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
George will be missed greatly by his partner, Patty Heberlein, his family, and his many friends.
Visitation for George will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W. 28th Street, Greeley, CO, 80631. He will be laid to rest the following day at 11:30 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236.
