

Georgia M. Morgan, 90, of Greeley, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015 at Hospice of Northern Colorado inpatient unit. She was born on November 27, 1925 in Elizabeth, Colorado to Philip Bror and Lucy Edna (McCracken) Nelson.
Georgia was raised in Elizabeth, attending Elizabeth High School. She then attended the Colorado Women’s College and spent four years at UNC in Greeley, majoring in Social Science with a minor in Music.
On June 12, 1946 she married Rene C. Morgan in Elizabeth.
Georgia’s first teaching job was in Kemmerer, Wyoming during WWII. She then worked at Platteville Elementary School and South Valley Middle School, retiring after 35 years. While she was a teacher in Platteville she was a teacher’s representative for the cheerleading and pep squads and the assistant coach for the South Valley boy’s football team. She loved teaching and always captured her students’ hearts.
Georgia had been a member of Platteville Methodist Church, where she was an organist. Most recently she was a member of the Cornerstone Community Church, formerly First Presbyterian Church in Greeley, where she served as a deacon and held the office of president for the Presbyterian Women. Georgia was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in Platteville, Delta Kappa Gamma, and served as the Republican Party chairwoman.
Georgia enjoyed art and painting, especially sketching women’s portraits. She also enjoyed music. She played the piano, trumpet and during her younger days, she even played Taps in Elizabeth. She was a die-hard Denver Broncos fan. Georgia enjoyed reading and was a member of several book clubs. She volunteered at the Swedish House in Greeley for many years. She had a wonderful work ethic.
Georgia is survived by her daughter Melinda (Larry) Wren; two sons Rene C. Morgan II and Philip (Robin) Morgan; sister Helen Tapparo; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rene and a great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Cornerstone Community Church in Greeley. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
