Harry R. Swanson, 84 of Loveland, Colorado, moved on to the next phase of his life on June 16, 2017. He was born in Trimountain, MI on February 2, 1933 to Fred and Florence Swanson. He graduated from Michigan College of Mining and Technology (now Michigan Technological University) with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1954. He worked for a short while at the United States Navy’s Bureau of Ships in Washington, D.C. and then spent the remainder of his 40-year career as a senior designer at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, OH. While at Goodyear, he developed several designs that resulted in patents in his name related to the tire manufacturing process.
He married Karen Martin in 1960 and had one son, Erik. Harry was a hard worker and would often be found on his John Deere tractor or tending to a multitude of projects at his home in Bath, OH or on the nearby family farm. A couple of the more memorable projects include designing and building a living room addition and remodeling other rooms as well as constructing a standalone garage in back of the house.
Harry and Karen moved to Colorado in 2000 (Erik had relocated to Colorado a few years prior). They were the general contractor in the construction of their home in Loveland. He put his talents to good use in the construction and ongoing maintenance of the home by adding his finishing touches that became a full-time endeavor. He also landscaped the entire four acres of his property with large boulders and other rocky materials.
Harry is survived by his wife Karen, and his son Erik (Kelly) and two grandchildren, Maggie and Sophie.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
