Herb married Melba (Briggs) on July 1, 1950 in Brighton. They were together for 62 ½ years until Melba’s passing in 2013. He attended schools in Gill, La Salle, and Greeley. Growing up Herb farmed with his family and continued the farming tradition with his wife and children. Herb and Melba made their first home together in Greeley, moving to the Roggen area to work for the Klausner Brothers. Later managing the Roggen Klein farm. Throughout this time often treated the kids of these families as his own. Herb later farmed on his own with his family in Roggen and Ariba Colorado and Haigler, Nebraska. After farming Herb and his son Ken started a trucking business. Later Herb and Ken ran Ike's Super Service in Roggen. Then worked in the oil industry. In his retirement, Herb assisted Melba with her upholstery business and spent many days with his son Ken at Greeley Electric. Herb was a skilled mechanic and woodworker. He built everything from buildings from the ground up to furniture including making rocking horses for many of his great-grandchildren. Herb had a generous spirit and a smile that warmed the room. He crossed paths with many folks throughout his long life and is remembered fondly by many. It was not uncommon for Herb to run into someone he knew from another time in his life almost every day. Herb enjoyed the outdoors including camping and fishing. Going on his last camping trip at the age of 87.
Herb was the patriarch of a large family shaped by the love and strength he and Melba shared. He will be missed dearly. We take heart that he is reunited with his beloved sweetheart.
