Isabel Portillo-Ruiz

Isabel Portillo-Ruiz, 62, of Greeley, died Monday, April 6, 2015 at Hospice of Northern Colorado inpatient unit. Isabel was born on July 8, 1952 in Juan Mendoza, Chihuahua, Mexico to Ramon Portillo and Enriqueta Ruiz.

Isabel was raised and educated in Juan Mendoza. After his education, he worked in agriculture in Mexico. He came to the U.S. in 1976 to work and returning each year to Mexico. On October 6, 1974 he married Leonila Bustillos in Juan Mendoza, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.

In 1994, Isabel moved his family to Greeley. He started working in farming and with horses in the Platteville area. He then started working in construction. He became disabled in 2005 and spent time at home helping to care for his grandchildren and working in the yard.

Isabel loved music and enjoyed time with friends. He enjoyed walking, playing poker and his guns and shooting. He was a very good in mathematics and loved teaching his children and grandchildren.

Isabel is survived by his wife, Leonila Portillo-Bustillos of Greeley; two daughters, Aurelia Portillo (Gustavo Chavira) and Leonila Portillo (Hector Robledo) both of Greeley; a son, Isabel Portillo, Jr. (Rita) of Greeley; a sister, Rita Portillo-Ruiz (Margarito Yañez) of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico; two brothers, Jose Ramon Portillo-Ruiz (Maria Loya) of Juan Mendoza, Chihuahua, Mexico and Roberto Portillo-Ruiz (Soledad Prieto) of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico and eight grandchildren, Yesenia, Angie, Kimberly, Dariel, Sayan, Laisha, Darey and Mia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Aurelia Portillo-Ruiz and Hermila Portillo-Ruiz and a brother, Alfredo Portillo-Ruiz.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2015 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
