James (Jim) was born in Minnesota and lived there until his family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1969. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School-Denver and the University of Northern Colorado-Greeley. Illinois was his home for many years before returning to Greeley in 2014.
Jim’s lifetime work was helping others. He spent many years working in various positions in the mental health care industry. Helping others was always a first priority. A bachelor, Jim enjoyed spending holidays and celebrating events with family and was always eager to accept invitations to dinner! He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Greeley for many years.
Friends remember Jim for his quick wit, generosity and calm demeanor. Always thinking of others, a birthday card or a Christmas card from Jim was always the first to arrive. He was especially interested in the lives of his nieces, Courtney Metzler (Jakob) - Berlin, Germany and Allison Levy (Nathan) – Denver, Colorado and their children Lukas, Matthias (Courtney) and Nolan (Allison).
Jim is also survived by his brother, Grant Lobnitz, San Luis Potosi, Mexico and his sister, Mary Stover (Richard), Windsor, Colorado.
Most folks who knew Jim regarded Jim as “stoic” with a heart of gold and a dry – very dry sense of humor. He was a stand-up, all around good guy who will be missed. We cherish our time with Jim, who is gone too soon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor can be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 3800 W. 20th Street, Greeley, CO 80634
