He joined the Army in 1950 and served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He then joined the Colorado Air National Guard in 1953 and retired in June of 1988. On May 8, 1955 he married the love of his life, Helen M. Fedele and they had four children. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren.
James is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen, and four children, Jeff (Nancy) Vitale, Greg Vitale, Beverly Dinges (Steve Carlson), Paul (Kim) Vitale, five grandchildren, Shannon, Michael, Joshua, Nicholas and Olivia, and three great-grandchildren, Shyler, Dominik and Giovanni.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.
