Jane Ann Schrader, 79, died January 18, 2022, at 5:30 PM in Greeley, Colorado. She was born July 19, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Richard James Cotter and Florence Lillian Winder of Columbus Junction, Iowa.
A graduate of Wapello High School and the University of Iowa, she married Herbert Louis Schrader of Victor, Iowa on September 12, 1964, at the first Presbyterian Church in Wapello, Iowa.
Ann was employed as a Social Worker at the Norfolk State Hospital in Nebraska. During her time in Nebraska, Ann was a Civil Defense Volunteer, worked with recruitment for the Norfolk Volunteer Bureau, and was an active member of the Nebraska Welfare Association.
Ann and her husband were co-owners and operators of a Coast-to-Coast Hardware store in Hartley, Iowa. They moved to Greeley, Colorado in 1979 where she worked for several years at the Carriage House.
Ann was a charter member of the Hartley Business and Professional Women and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was an active member of the Weld County Genealogical Society, a charter and 30-year member of the Ed Spec Investment Club, belonged to the American Association of University Women, and was a former member of PEO Chapter BE.
Family history was extremely important to her; Ann published books on the Schrader, Winder, and Cotter families and researched other family lines as well. She became an expert genealogist and taught a Genealogy class for ten years for her “snowbird” friends in Tucson, Arizona. Ann was proud to research and become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Ann was an epic swim mom, and fantastic supporter of Boy Scout Troop 245 in Greeley, Colorado. She was an engaged member of the First United Methodist Church in Greeley since 1979. She was a curator extraordinaire and enjoyed decorating for the holidays and displaying and sharing the knowledge of family antiques. The many years she spent traveling in her motorhome with husband Herb throughout the USA, Mexico, and Canada brought many friends, memories, and much joy. She was a proud Hawkeye fan, and she and Herb were lifetime members of the University of Iowa Alumni Association.
Ann will be remembered by family and friends as a wonderful, caring friend who always enjoyed a great conversation, sharing stories, and gave great life advice when asked. Ann’s repertoire of Christmas cookies, and Christmas decorations were amazing to say the least. She had a love for laughter, reading, and was a lifelong curious learner. She loved being a grandmother and passing along family traditions and stories. Ann loved cross stitching and wood burning as a hobby and enjoyed getting her grandchildren to start on a project with her to learn.
Ann is survived by her sons Brian Schrader (Ocala, Florida), and Kevin Schrader (Colorado Springs, Colorado), grandchildren Dempsey Sage, Zoey Quinn, and Finnegan Donn (Colorado Springs, Colorado), and niece Jody Legg (Emery) (Golden, Colorado), and nephew Clint Schrader (Monica) (Charlotte, North Carolina) and their children Reagan and William.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother-in-law Richard Schrader, and sister-in-law Beverly Schrader.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2022 at United Methodist Church, 917 10th Avenue, Greeley. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the Wapello Cemetery in Wapello, Iowa.
