Janet, whose name means God's grace, was born January 9th, 1933 in Denver, CO to Clifford Warren Currey and Enid Marjorie McCollister Currey. In 1937, Janet, her mom and dad, and her little sister Julie moved to Greeley. She attended Cameron elementary school and Meeker Junior High. By the end of Janet's 9th grade year, she was looking forward to attending Greeley High School (later named Greeley Central High School). It was at this time that she met Earl Stanley (Stan) Williamson, when the High school band invited the ninth graders to join in the concert at the Motorcycle Rodeo at Island Grove Park on Memorial Day, May 30th, 1948. During the concert, the bass clarinet player (Stan) was seated next to the saxophone player (Janet). They shared a bag of peanuts together and began to get acquainted. Janet was smitten! Later she found out that Stan went home that night and told his mother that he had met the girl he was going to marry! They dated through high school and after Janet graduated, while Stan was in the Navy, they were married.
After Stan's Navy career, Janet and Stan moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where their first three children were born. Perri Jan, Donn Currey, and Penni Jean. After moving back to Greeley, their fourth child, Dave Stanley was born. While raising four children, Janet worked a few different jobs: in a sandwich shop called the Pickle Barrel, as a local produce company night clerk that required her to arrive for work at 3 AM to send drivers out for deliveries, and helping Stan in a family owned business named Will/Way Distributing in which they boxed and distributed juice out of their kitchen for eight years. One of Janet's favorite “jobs” was actually as a volunteer Historian for the Greeley Chorale.
Janet enjoyed spending time with family. She organized vacations and camping and fishing trips in the Colorado mountains. Later, as empty nesters, Janet and Stan had multiple opportunities to travel abroad with the Greeley Chorale. Destinations they visited from 1988 to 2005 included: Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, Scotland, London, China, and their last trip was to Rome Italy and surrounding Cities.
At the age of 50 Janet began painting which quickly became a passion and showed her incredible talent. She painted hundreds of paintings and enjoyed giving them as gifts to friends and family. One year, she painted something meaningful for each grandchild.
She entered many art shows resulting in a number of awards.
Along with writing an autobiography titled “My Story”, she also wrote and published many other family historical books.
