Jimmie Orland Nall, 64, died at his home in Greeley on Sunday, May 1, 2011. He was born August 8, 1946 at Texhoma, Oklahoma to Jim O. and Marge (Lee) Nall Zordel.
Jimmie was raised in Oklahoma, attending schools in Forgan, where he graduated from high school. On June 20, 1966 he entered the US Navy. He served as a corpsman in Viet Nam with Marine Corps units, in combat. He was honorably discharged on March 2, 1970.
He was a police officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department. On his last day of being a rookie officer, he was involved in a motorcycle accident. The accident left him paralyzed. Despite his injury, he earned his associates degree at Lamar. He then transferred to University Of Northern Colorado, where he earned his Bachelor Of Science and Masters Degrees, both in Rehab Counseling.
Jimmie met Dorothy Loftus in 1981, when she was a home health nurse. They were married in September 1984.
Jim had an immense faith in God. He survived his spinal cord injury for the past 40 years, by the grace of God. He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir. He was a member and an officer of Knights Of Columbus Council 2160. He also volunteered with the Greeley Independence Stampede for 15 years.
Jimmie was active helping people with new careers at Weld County Job Service until 2009. He and his wife formed GRIP (Greeley Resources for Independent People) now Connections for Independent Living. Jim currently served as President of the Board of Directors for Connections. He was also an active volunteer at North Colorado Medical Center.
He loved people of all ages and enjoyed visiting and story telling. He loved to help others, he was a faithful friend to many.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Greeley; and his faithful canine companion, Jake; mother-in-law Leora Loftus of Eyota, Minnesota; sister Rosa Eagan (Gail) of Forgan, Oklahoma, Margie Ruddick (Richard) of Salt Lake City, Utah and step-sister Gayla (Bill) Hulton of Kansas; brothers Bob Cutright and Rodney Nall (Maryann) both of California, John Nall (Linda) of Perryton, Texas and step-brother Phil Zordel of Kansas many nieces, and nephews; also survived by a daughter Andrea Mann, and her children. Jimmie had a special relationship with Dorothy’s family, especially his mother-in-law. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step father Gail Zordel, and a brother Roy Nall.
Visitation 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday followed with Recitation of the Rosary and time of sharing at 7 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church. Cremation will follow.
