Joanne Marie Holmes

Joanne Marie Holmes, 80, of Greeley, Colorado passed away on August 3, 2017. Joanne was born May 2, 1937 in Trinidad, Colorado to father Jasper Antista and mother Marguerite Mendine. She was one of three children, a brother Jasper Antista, still living, and sister Marguerite Passarelli, whom precedes her in death. She graduated high school in Trinidad from Holy Trinity. After high school, she pursued secondary education from Trinidad State Junior College, achieving her Associates of Arts in Elementary Education. She furthered her secondary education at Adams State College in Alamosa, obtaining her Bachelor in Arts in Elementary Education.

She married the love of her life Frank Alfred Holmes and had two sons, Dean and Brian Holmes. After spending some time living and working as an elementary teacher in Westminster, they set their roots in Greeley in 1971. She was a preschool teacher for more than 30 years at the First Congregational Preschool in Greeley. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the local Moose Lodge. In her free time, she loved attending her son’s, and eventually grandchildren’s, sporting events. She enjoyed watching professional sports on TV, dancing to 50’s and 60’s music, and cooking Italian dishes.

She is survived by her two sons, Brian (Heidi) Holmes of Greeley and Dean (Shaundra) Holmes of Englewood; grandchildren Andrew (Diana) Holmes of Loma Linda, CA, Jessica (Kyle) Robbins of Denver, Patricia, Benjamin, Brandon and Tyler Holmes; great-grandchildren Liam Holmes and Cooper, and Colton Robbins; and her brother Jasper (LouAnne) Antista of Cerritos, CA.

Preceding her in death are her husband of 50 years, Frank Alfred Holmes; parents, and sister Marguerite Passarelli.

Joanne’s family would like to especially thank the staff of Garden Square of Westlake, The Greeley Place, Suncrest Hospice, and Caring Hearts.

Services will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church of Greeley, 2222 23rd Ave., starting with a Rosary at 11:00 a.m., Mass of Catholic Burial at 11:30 a.m., and committal at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
