

John Chambers Althoff died on May 7, 2024, at the age of 67, at his home in Fraser, Colorado. John was born December 23, 1956 in Denver, Colorado to the late John J. and Catherine C. Althoff. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Greeley where he spent his childhood and graduated from Greeley West High School in 1975. He earned his BS degree in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University in Fort Collins in 1979.
He returned to Greeley to work as a Civil Engineer, then moved to Eagle and Winter Park for similar work, returning to Greeley where he ended his engineering career with the City of Greeley.
Outside of work he took great interest in designing his home with passive heating and cooling. He was a life-long accomplished golfer and skier. John volunteered 5 years with the Winter Park National Sports Center for the Disabled, 24 years on the Winter Park Volunteer Ski Patrol, and worked 22 years for Beaver Creek summer events as a part-time Vail Resorts employee. In his spare time, he could be found exploring the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah, including many backpacking trips. While others in his party fished and hunted, John captured nature with his camera.
Surviving him are his sisters Mary (Chris) Giblin of Denver, Colorado, Margaret Althoff (Douglas Johnson) of Fort Collins, Colorado and Jean Marie (Bruce) Thompson of Denver, Colorado. A celebration of life for John will be held Friday, June 21, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Allnutt Funeral & Cremation - Macy, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634, followed by a reception following service.
