

John was born on February 21, 1949 to Norma (Tiemann) and Joseph Nail in Topeka, Kansas. He attended Tascosa High School in Amarillo, Texas and later graduated with a 5-year Mechanical Engineering degree from Texas Tech University. John also earned the certification of Professional Engineer from the American Association of Mechanical Engineers. He was a talented and complete professional.
John was always looking for ways to improve things for others. He knew a little bit about just about everything. John served as the School District Engineer and had an excellent reputation for being thorough and providing cost effective engineering solutions. He worked on many projects for Weld County School District 6 for more than 20 years. John left an indelible impact on almost every school in Greeley and Evans. He was an early adopter of energy efficiency in institutional settings saving the school district many utility dollars. John retired from the school district in 2004. During his life, he also worked for other engineering firms bringing his expertise to many projects across Northern Colorado.
John was a musician and enjoyed playing his guitars which were a lifelong hobby and interest. He was proud of his handmade acoustic guitar and played electric guitars through his favorite Marshall amp. John really knew and loved classic Rock & Roll - and certainly his motorcycle. In his early years, he really enjoyed spoiling his little sister, Sue.
John always enjoyed a good game of golf. He was an avid and talented golfer who enjoyed being outdoors. After retirement, John enjoyed traveling with his wife Norma, and they divided their time and energies among family and friends from Colorado to Oregon to California. In his life, John was known as a kind and soft-spoken friend, an excellent chef, a caring family man, and we will miss him.
John is survived by loving spouse Norma Jean Traynor; Andi Tranor (stepdaughter); Brian and Henry Fuller (grandsons); Ali Sarankakos (stepdaughter) (Michael); Emma and Jack Sarankakos (grandchildren); Sue Gentry (Brad); Jim Nail (Dorothy); Sara Hartford (niece) (Andy); Sam (grandnephew) and Nora (grandniece).
