
John W. Schafer, 87, of Evans, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Hospice of Northern Colorado inpatient unit. He was born on December 17, 1928 in Walsenburg, Colorado to Andrew and Ruth (Gilmore) Schafer.
John graduated from Walsenburg High School and attended CU Boulder. He worked for his father at his grocery store until he joined the service. He served in Germany during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. On June 1, 1951, he married Carlene Jennings in Edinburgh, Indiana. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage. After his father passed away, John worked for Kraft Foods, then for Associated Groceries in Pueblo as a manager of the Meat, Cheese and Frozen Food departments. After that, he worked for Steins Food as a Buyer.
John attended Greeley West Baptist Church.
John is survived by his wife, Carlene; three daughters, Connie (Charles) Keep of Northglenn, Susan (Edward) Musil of Greeley and Cynthia Lyons of Loveland; six grandchildren, Kelly (Jen), James, Jason (Angie), John (Heidi), Heidi (Darren) and Eric (Ruubi) and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Chad.
Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
