Joy was born on December 17, 1931, in Marion, Kansas, to Huldrich and Velma (Tippin) Winters. The family later moved to Colorado, where Joy was raised alongside her five sisters and two brothers, forming lifelong bonds that remained central to her life.
Joy built a successful career in banking and served as Vice President of United Bank in Greeley, a role that reflected her dedication, professionalism, and strong work ethic. Outside of her career, she embraced life with a sense of adventure. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad, including memorable trips to Ireland and a cruise through Barbados. Some of her favorite travels were those shared with her sisters and her granddaughter.
Joy was always very athletic throughout her life and enjoyed playing softball and bowling, as well as water skiing. She also enjoyed trips to Black Hawk and Las Vegas, which led to a particularly treasured memory—meeting Elvis Presley while playing. At home, she found peace and pride in tending her yard and gardening.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Schoneman (Brad) and Cheryl Phillips (Mick); her grandchildren, Nikki Brewin (Steve) and Eric Phillips; her great-grandchildren, Katlyn and Annabelle; and her brother, Richard “Dick” Winters.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Huldrich and Velma Winters; her siblings, Darlene, Gay, Mary, Donna, Charlene, and Ronald; and the fathers of her children, Harold Renke and Byron Rowan.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Joy will be remembered for her independence, adventurous spirit, and love of family.
