

LaRue Mondt, 85, of Greeley, passed away on December 16th, 2023. LaRue was born on October 25th, 1938 to Edward and Ella Mae (Bradley) Cox in Greeley, CO. During her high school years she was active in choir, was a soloist, band officer, drama, worked on the Kourier (school newspaper), and the Annual. She lettered by participating in The Glee Club, being a cheerleader, and playing athletics. She was also the Prom Queen. After graduating from Kersey High School in 1956, she started her career in banking, becoming a teller at banks in Boulder, Platteville, and Greeley. When living in Boulder her son Rick was born. 18 months later, after a move to Platteville, Ron was born in Greeley.
Her family was the most important piece of her life and she was blessed by parents Ed and Ella Mae Cox who showed her the value in family and friends and gave her the foundation to love, share and invest in her son’s, daughter-in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. LaRue was successful in her professional life. She worked at several banks over the years including: Greeley National Bank (Bank One and then Chase) and Eaton Bank. During this time she also received her diploma from the New Mexico School of Banking and Robert O Anderson Graduate School of Management. She retired as the Senior Vice President of Operations at Weld County Bank of Choice. She was recognized as the American Business Women's-Woman of the year, LaRue was very active in her communities. She was recognized for being the President of the P.T.A., the secretary of Colorado Ag Education Inc., and the President of the Greeley Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. She spent time on the Advisory Board for the Greeley Convention and Visitor Bureau, served many years to the Downtowners, served six years on the Board of Trustees Northern Colorado Medical Center, served nine years on the City of Greeley Island Grove Regional Park Advisory Board, and was recognized by KFKA’s Act of Kindness Award. LaRue was actively involved with the Colorado Farm Show starting in 1978 and worked on numerous committees. She was the Chair Woman in 1991 and 1992. LaRue claimed that her biggest accomplishment was her work on securing the $1,000,000 loan for the Farm Show that contributed to the funding to build the Island Grove Event Center. She would tell you “I know every corner of this building.” She always remembered her experiences with the great people of the Farm Show.
LaRue was predeceased by Ed and Ella Mae Cox.
She is survived by sister Carol Cox, sons Rick & Ron, daughter-in-laws Cathy (Hitz) Mondt, Sherie (Smith) Mondt, seven grandchildren: David Mondt wife Kristin, Amanda Mondt husband Kody Probasco, Arika Fanshier (Mondt) husband Jake, LaRona Kitzinger (Mondt), husband Robert, Joshua Mondt wife Alicia, Luke Mondt wife Hailey, and Derek Mondt. Her 10 great-grandchildren were a joy in her life; Elijah Mondt, Jaelynn Mondt, Phillip Mondt,Leonard Mondt, Noah Fanshier, Theodore Mondt, Ella Fanshier, Annava Mondt, Warren Kitzinger, and Maci Mondt (due January 2024).
A memorial service will be Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W. 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado. LaRue will be laid to rest on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 W. 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado.
